How the Fortified Brief newsletter handles your information.

The short version: we ask for your email address, we use it only to send you Fortified Brief, we never sell it, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
Who we are
Fortified Press LLC, 3334 New Milford Rd., Atwater, OH 44201, publishes Fortified Brief, a newsletter about security and AI news for business owners, IT leads and managers, written by Tom Holden.
This policy covers the Fortified Brief newsletter and its subscription pages at sec-news.fortified-press.com. The separate “Email Updates” list for book news on the Fortified Press home page is a different list and is not covered here.
What we collect
- Your email address, when you subscribe.
- A record that you agreed to receive the newsletter: the wording you agreed to, the date and time, your IP address, and your browser’s identifying text (its user agent). We keep this so we can show that you consented.
- The dates you confirmed and, if you do, unsubscribed.
- Abuse-prevention counts: how many signups come from one IP address in an hour. These are short-lived and are removed automatically within a few days.
We do not ask for your name. The subscription pages do not set cookies and do not use analytics or advertising trackers. The newsletter contains no tracking pixels and no tracked links, so we do not know whether you open an issue or which links you click.
How we use it
- To send you a confirmation email after you sign up (you are not subscribed until you click the link in it).
- To send you each issue of Fortified Brief.
- To honor your unsubscribe, and to keep a record that you agreed to receive the newsletter.
- To protect the signup form from abuse.
We do not sell or rent your email address, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not add you to our other email lists.
Who handles your data for us
- Amazon Web Services runs the subscription pages and stores the subscriber records, in data centers in the United States.
- Google Workspace (Gmail) sends our emails, so Google handles the messages we send to you.
We do not share your information with anyone else, except if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your record while you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we keep your email address, your consent record and the unsubscribe date so that we do not email you again and can show your history, until you ask us to delete them. Abuse-prevention counts are removed automatically within a few days.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe any time with the link at the bottom of every issue. It works with one click, and you can also use the link on the preferences page.
- Ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you by emailing sec-news@fortified-press.com. We aim to reply within 30 days. We honor these requests from anyone, wherever you live.
- Withdraw your consent at any time. Unsubscribing does this. Withdrawing does not affect the emails we sent before.
If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, we rely on your consent to send you the newsletter, and you may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Security
Subscriber records are stored in access-controlled cloud storage, encrypted at rest, and the subscription pages use HTTPS. The links in our emails are signed so they cannot be guessed or altered. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security, but we take care to protect your information.
Children
Fortified Brief is written for business readers and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has subscribed, email us and we will delete the record.
This website
Like the rest of fortified-press.com, this page loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google when you open it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and its “Last updated” date. If a change is significant, we will say so in the newsletter.
